With Chinese New Year fast approaching, we are focused on moving goods ahead of factory shutdowns. In positive news for global supply chains, the threat of US port strikes has been averted.

With Chinese New Year approaching on 29th January 2025, the market remains under pressure due to the holiday closures in China and Hong Kong, which can last up to four weeks. As businesses work to move goods ahead of factory shutdowns, some of which will start closing next week, we are focused on ensuring timely shipments. Port and customs operations will be limited during this period, and carriers continue to implement blank sailings on Asia-Europe routes. Our team is working closely with our overseas colleagues to navigate these challenges and maintain smooth supply chain operations.

There was good news this week as the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) reached a tentative agreement on a new six-year contract. Both parties have agreed to operate under the current terms while the ILA’s wage scale committee and USMX members complete the ratification process. This resolution provides much-needed stability for East and Gulf Coast ports, alleviating potential disruption to supply chains.
