High Demand and Capacity Management Persist
Demand for sea freight remains strong across major trade lanes, particularly between Asia and Europe and on Transpacific routes. To manage available space and maintain service reliability, carriers are continuing to implement blank sailings. This capacity management is helping to balance supply and demand, though it is also keeping pressure on space and contributing to sustained elevated freight rates.
Storm Impact in China Has Eased
Last week’s severe weather along the Chinese coast caused disruption at several major ports, including Shanghai, Ningbo and terminals in Northern China. Heavy storms delayed vessel arrivals and restricted access to key terminals, with some schedules pushed back by a number of days.
While operations at the affected ports have now stabilised and most vessel schedules have recovered, some minor knock-on effects are still being felt. These include delays to some transhipment connections, but the overall impact is minimal and continuing to ease.
