The sea freight market remains stable at present, with demand at seasonally normal levels. With China’s Golden Week holiday in early October drawing closer, carriers are managing capacity through blank sailings.
Blank Sailings Expected Ahead of Golden Week
Carriers continue to cancel selected sailings on Asia–Europe and Transpacific routes, and more blank sailings are anticipated as Golden Week approaches in addition to previous announcements. Volumes are expected to rise towards the end of September as businesses prepare ahead of factory closures in early October. The additional blank sailings around this time will reduce sailing options but are intended to align capacity with demand, maintaining freight rates.
Schedule Reliability Holding Steady
With capacity continuing to be withdrawn, some challenges to reliability are inevitable. Despite the blank sailings adjustments, overall schedule reliability is relatively stable. Carriers are providing a more consistent service than earlier in the year, though short-notice changes remain possible.
UK Ports Operating as Normal
