Carriers withdraw capacity over the Golden Week holiday period, with multiple blank sailings announced on Asia–Europe routes.

Golden Week Blank Sailings Announced

The global sea freight market continues to adjust to shifting demand and capacity changes. Golden Week in China runs from 1 to 8 October and is a period of seasonal low demand, with many factories closing, manufacturing pausing and very little cargo being shipped. In response, carriers are pulling capacity from Asia–Europe services and have announced blank sailings through late September, Golden Week itself and the following week. Sailing options will be reduced during this period.

These cuts are part of wider capacity management by carriers to balance supply with the normal seasonal slowdown. Further last-minute cancellations are possible, which could lead to delays and some supply chain disruption.

We will continue to monitor carrier announcements and update you on any changes that may affect your shipments.

Unrest in Indonesia May Disrupt Supply Chains

Thousands of protesters have rallied across Indonesia in recent weeks after reports that lawmakers receive housing allowances nearly ten times Jakarta’s minimum wage. Protests have spread nationwide and intensified after a 21-year-old delivery rider was allegedly run over by an armoured police vehicle. Demonstrators have set fire to vehicles and damaged buildings. While there has been no impact on factory production or the movement of cargo out of factories to ports so far, the protests threaten the stability of the region and may lead to ongoing political unrest. We will keep you updated on any further changes as and when they happen.
