The situation for supply chains in Bangladesh has improved following the withdrawal of the countrywide curfew. However, production lines and exports will remain disrupted while backlogs are cleared.

Following the resignation of the prime minister on 5th August and the formation of a new interim government, the student protest leaders halted their protest activities. Consequently, the army chief has lifted the nationwide curfew, resumed internet services and urged all offices, factories, and institutions to reopen.

Supply Chain Impact

The end of the curfew will allow for freer movement of cargo, facilitating the delivery of goods to ports and Container Freight Stations (CFS). However, there is still some ship congestion and a loading bottleneck to clear.

The country’s main port has resumed full operations but faces a backlog of containers. As of 11th August, 24 container vessels are waiting outside Chittagong (Chattogram) Port and and 10 vessels are at berth. The 7-day average vessel waiting time is nearly 4 days.

Customs operations are functioning as normal once again. The airport is open and operating normally.

Production delays in factories are likely to persist in the short term as a result of the curfew’s impact in previous weeks.
